Introduction
A love of collectibles is one of those things that simply creeps up on you. You never notice it until your actually doing it like many other interests that simply seem to grow. When we were approached to sell collectibles I was mildly interested. This all changed when I walked into a store filled to the rafters with collectibles. At first I was looking at things and moments later I was looking into History. From the moment I saw baseball cards and coins that spanned decades or memorabilia such as signed baseball bats and photographs everything seemed to change in an instant. Not only did I begin to appreciate collectibles I began to realize that so many items where not only precious or prized items in other peoples lives, but they are a part of our culture and remind us of simpler times and
are history in and of themselves.
New England Collectibles (NEC)
As we began selling products on Ebay we noticed a huge disparity in pricing and also that
as fantastic as the web may be for researching and gathering information, there simply is no definitive source for pricing information when it comes to collectibles.
The bottom line is that purchasers want deals. It is human nature. The issue with selling collectibles on Ebay is the fact that many people are not true collectors and therefore in selling a collectible on Ebay the inherent value of the item as a collectible is lost amidst the selling process and the mass of products.
As an example, given the economy, the price collectors are willing to pay for collectibles is less then it would be in a good economy. Add to this the fact that in many cases the melt value of the coin is more it’s value as a collectible. So imagine the fact that piece of history is now considered for it’s melt value and that people do just that. An investor who can see only the coins worth as metal will purchase the item and you can imagine what happens to History.
Given that in touch economic times products simply sell for less, we felt it was a wonderful idea to start a Social Network for Tech Savvy collectors in New England. The concept is a simple one. As we sell our collectibles and research collectibles and pricing we could share information with collectors in New England on everything and anything concerning collectibles in our region and on the internet.
Collectors Paradise is located in Marlborough Massachusetts.
